Memmo Alfama
Tucked away on a quiet lane in Alfama, this adults-only retreat offers forty-two rooms and a pool overlooking the Lisbon skyline.
The Memmo Alfama transforms a restored 19th-century building into a contemporary retreat, offering a commanding vantage point over Lisbon's oldest neighborhood.
The Vibe
Tucked away on the unassuming Travessa das Merceeiras, the entrance is intentionally discreet. Inside, the aesthetic is contemporary and restrained—closer to a well-appointed modern apartment than a traditional period suite, fitting perfectly with its Design Hotels membership.
The Terrace
The first-floor terrace is the property's focal point. White marble floors frame a signature deep-red plunge pool designed to visually blend with the terracotta rooftops below. By evening, the space transitions into an outdoor wine bar with sweeping views out over the Tagus River.
The Rooms
All 42 rooms feature Egyptian cotton bedding, blackout drapes, and minibars stocked with Portuguese snacks. The defining difference is the view, which ranges from the river or rooftops to the internal courtyard. The windowless mansard rooms tucked under the eaves sit just steps from the terrace and are priced accordingly. Book your preferred view deliberately, as complimentary upgrades are rare.
Food & Drink
There is no formal restaurant on site. Breakfast is a generous buffet served in the Living Room—a calm, Scandinavian-inspired space gathered around a communal table beneath a skylight. Throughout the rest of the day, the Wine Bar serves tapas like croquettes, octopus, and local charcuterie, alongside an extensive wall of Portuguese wines, ports, and gins. It is perfect for a light bite, but you will need to venture out for a formal, sit-down dinner.
The Location
Situated in central Alfama, the hotel is a short walk from the Sé and Castelo de São Jorge. Expect typical neighborhood logistics: steep hills, cobbled streets, and limited direct car access to the front door.
The Fine Print
To preserve its tranquil atmosphere, the property strictly enforces two rules: no guests under sixteen, and no group bookings of five or more rooms.
Couples seeking iconic Alfama views and a relaxed terrace for evening drinks, without the rigid atmosphere of a luxury palace stay.
This is an adults-only property (16 and over). Be strategic when selecting your room: Mansard rooms lack windows and courtyard rooms face inward, so reserve a river or rooftop room if you want those classic Alfama views.

The hotel’s own site is the first link on purpose: a small hotel keeps more of what you pay there, and requests — a particular room, a late arrival — reach someone who can act on them. Compare it against the aggregator before you decide; neither link earns this site anything.
